Full course description

This practice-based hybrid workshop is designed for current high school English teachers who may be planning to teach college writing in a dual/concurrent credit format, as well as teachers who want to better prepare their current students for the college writing classroom.

KBOR Core Outcomes for college writing courses as well as common writing expectations and pedagogical approaches at the college level will be discussed.  Participants will learn more about the writing assignments common to college writing program in Kansas, as well as assessment practices and rationales.  Participants will practice evaluating and commenting on college-level student writing, illustrating ways to streamline writing assessment practices while still providing useful and substantive feedback, and designing engaging writing assignments and activities.

Participants will join a community of teachers for a required one-day, 6-hour, face-to-face workshop on Friday, May 29, 2020; will participate in 3-4 prerequisite online discussions based on required readings between May 26 to June 5, 2020; and develop, write and assess one major college-level writing assignment.

Successful completion of this workshop will provide 6 professional development learning hours.
